Wynton Marsalis

I feel very fortunate to have made friends with the world greatest trumpet maker, David Monette.  http://www.monette.net/newsite/


David, and his small staff of amazing craftsmen, produce the best instruments for the world's most acclaimed classical and jazz musicians.  At the top of the list is Wynton Marsalis.  When Wynton passes through or even near Portland he makes a point to visit David and crew in their NE Portland workshop.  These stops usually include an in-shop concert for customers and friends.  I've had the privilege to hang a bit with Wynton and to attend many of Dave's very intimate and  truly unbelievable concerts.  No one has the command of any instrument like Wynton Marsalis does with the trumpet.


This past Monday, on CBS's new morning show, I saw another side of Wynton's talent when he told his story of his relationship with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Cat Teepee

I'm really not a CAT person, though I have taken care of and fed a few over the years. Many of my friends might consider the Cat Teepee. Seems like a totally ridiculous idea.
